“I-Can Write’ is a competition organized by Yspot Brand. It is a writing competition designed for High School students (Grades 7-12). The competition will focus on Essay Writing for High School students according to the following categories; Grades 7-9 and 10-12. The purpose is to help children develop and organize their thinking about key concepts, build their critical thinking and communication skills, encourage them to develop a formal, disciplined approach to writing that communicates clearly and with authority especially when arguing a case. We consider this competition to be highly important for children in the face of the COVID 19 pandemic.
Entry and Audition Process
To enter into the competition, each applicant must submit a completed registration form which qualifies them for entry and initial screening process. Entry shall be done once. Anyone applying twice is automatically disqualified.
Competition Rules
Please make sure you carefully read all the rules before entering the competition. Entry implies acceptance of all rules. Failure to comply at any point in the competition results in automatic disqualification.
General Rules
Essays: 1,500 words maximum,1,200 words minimum. The title is not included in the word count.
Entrants may withdraw entries from the competition by notification in writing.
Entries will not be returned, therefore keep a copy.
Entries must show NO name, address or identifying marks other than the title of the essay and the assigned code.
The deadline date for entries is 10 PM (GMT) on Sunday, August 23rd, 2020.
Eligibility
Entrant must be a student in any High school
Entry essays must never have been published online, website, blog, Facebook, broadcast nor a winning or placed (as in 2nd, 3rd or runner up etc.) in any other competition.
Entry shall be done once. Anyone applying twice is automatically disqualified.
Entrants must be willing to be aired live and pictures taken for social media purposes and for the virtual event where the winners will be announced
Entry Format
All entries must be in English
All essays must be typed in Segoe UI, font size 12, double- space and word count written on top of the first page.
Notification
- Due to the expected large volume of entries, only the top 20 entrants will be notified by an email on or before the 10 PM (GMT) on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.
- The winners of the Essay Competition will be announced at a virtual meeting, where judges, contestants and other officials will be present. The virtual meeting will take place on the Saturday, 5th September, 2020 by 2pm GMT.
